IMO and monqi Target Children’s First Smartphone Market

14.11.18

IMO, the UK-based challenger mobile brand from Verve Connect, have announced another major new partnership. They will team up with monqi, the market leader in software which “gets children started safely with mobile technology”, to bring their new IMO S2 with monqi smartphone exclusively to Tesco Mobile, via their 460 Tesco Mobile phone stores.

The 4G handset runs Android 8.1 Go Edition, has a vivid 5” IPS HD display, 13MP and 5MP cameras, 16GB of ROM, and a rear mounted finger print scanner.

The device is targeted at parents who have kids aged between 6 and 14 years old, and who feel their children are ready to own their own smartphones and begin to adopt mobile technology, without having to worry about who they are talking to, or what they are looking at.

The unique monqi software on the IMO S2, addresses all the key areas parents with young children are concerned about, such as managing their children’s contacts and applications, being able to restrict their screen time, accessing their children’s live location, facilitating safe internet browsing by blocking illicit content, and being able to remotely lock the device if required.

Nigel Whitehead, Director of Sales and Propositions at IMO commented, “We are delighted to be working with the team at monqi to bring this exciting proposition to the market, exclusively with Tesco Mobile.

Being a parent of children aged 10 and 12, I understand first-hand the difficulties in being able to track and control what kids have access to on their smartphones, whilst giving them a device which they feel offers them a full, immersive smartphone experience.

The IMO S2 with monqi is not a children’s handset. It gives kids a fully-fledged, grown up smartphone with great cameras and other cool features like fingerprint security, and gives the parent the ability to make the phone as open or restrictive as they like.

There are close to 6 million children in the UK aged between 6 and 14, so the opportunity is huge. The IMO S2 with monqi should resonate with the parents who have young children, and our partnership with monqi aims to help them introduce mobile telephone to their young families in a safe and intelligent way. With Tesco’s support we are sending our training team into every Tesco Mobile Phone Shop before the IMO S2 with monqi launches, and are executing awareness events and training in their call centres and across Tesco’s head office sites.

We are delighted they have given the project their full backing, and you will see the IMO S2 with monqi promoted heavily across all media in the run up to Christmas. It’s a great product for their customers who crave mobile control for their kids, and it makes a perfect Christmas gift. We are confident it will be a massive success.”

monqi founder Frederik Albrechtsen said “monqi was founded on the belief that we need clever mobile solutions for children. It’s inevitable that children will want to use technology. With monqi, parents can help their kids to navigate digital waters safely and set boundaries to promote healthy phone habits from the start. Receiving the Mumsnet Rated accreditation means that parents don’t just have to take our word for it, they can be confident that monqi has been tested by real parents and children, with positive results.” Customers can pre-register from the 14th November to get the handset, which will be available in stores by the end of November. It will be available both on contract from £12/month and on PAYG from £99.
